This week’s craziness

It’s so encouraging to see the response Crazy Good Parent is generating among  parents—and non-parents—struggling with mental health issues. In two months, it’s gone from six founding followers to nearly 100 blog followers and more than 50 who follow via Twitter and Facebook. (Not following!? Just a click shows your support.)

Crazy Good Parent is growing, in large part, because of the wonderful contributors who’ve written about their own experiences with mental health. Look for a great post tomorrow by Sara Lomas of Lullabies and Laments. In Have Yourself a Mental Little Christmas, Sara writes about getting through the holidays with minimal anxiety and dermatillomania. You’ll have to read it to find out what that is. The drawing Sara did to accompany the story is great, too!

Thursday, I’ll start posting on resources available through the Interweb (and the library or bookstore) to those with mental illnesses. There are so many—almost too many—so I’m hoping to wade through the morass and highlight those I think are most reliable and most helpful. Is there a site, blog, book or other resource that’s been valuable to you? Let me know and I’ll check it out.

Interested in contributing to Crazy Good Parent? In January, the focus will be on communication. I’ve already got a contributor writing about “living out” with a stigmatized condition. I’ll be writing about what to tell the children about your mental health. There’s plenty of opportunity for posts, so let me know if you’ve got something to say about communication.

Then, let’s talk about sex (and relationships) in February. Has your mental health, or treating it, affected your romantic relationships? Relationships with your kids? Other family members? How? Wanna write about it?

You don’t have to write for CGP to contribute. Photographs, drawings, videos are all welcome. And don’t forget to follow us on WordPress, Facebook and Twitter. Just click on the links on the right.

  1. I’ll be interested in reading the one about “living out” because as soon as I started talking publicly about my anxiety, the most backlash I got was from my own family! Not exactly what I expected.

  2. You’re on a roll!!! Glad the word is getting out there. So far, the posts have been great…except for that chick who wrote about having an anxiety attack on Thanksgiving. Who thinks they are going to die over delicious stuffing and pumpkin pie? She needs to get a grip 🙂
