As many of us already know, there is a genetic component to mental disorders. In fact, recent research has shown markers on certain chromosomes that are associated with bipolar, schizophrenia and other disorders.
It’s also well-established that children of parents with mental disorders are much more likely than children of the neurotypicals to have a mental disorder, too.
And (as if that weren’t enough) parents with mental disorders may have issues like anxiety and irritablity that make parenting even more difficult.
Crazy Good Parent is looking for stories from parents on the anxieties we feel about how our mental disorders might affect our children. It doesn’t have to be serious; humor is absolutely encouraged! Click the Share Your Story tab and let us know what you’d like to say.
