You Can Tell It’s November

We’ve turned the clocks back, put the down comforter on the bed and my hands are cold, as they will be until April. These are the things in my house that signify it is officially November. As if I needed further proof that it is both November and I am crazy, I have taken on the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) challenge. My son, equally crazy and far lazier, is doing No-shave November. It’s supposed to raise awareness of cancer in men (especially testicular cancer), but for him it’s a socially acceptable excuse for what he does already.

This month, I have contracted with myself to following the steps in the 30-day Book In A Month system by Victoria Lynn Schmidt. At the end of the month, I’ll have a manuscript for a novel I’ve wanted to write for years. I am fully prepared (ok, not fully) for it to suck. I expect it to suck, I keep warning myself it will suck and I’m going to do my best to keep at it even though it sucks. No matter what happens, if I stick to it, I will have a manuscript, even if it sucks.

I know at least one other Crazy Good Parent who is taking on a similar challenge and we’ll hear from her later this week.

What about you? Are you taking on a challenge this month, NaNoWriMo or something else? Let’s share our goals and post them. I promise to check in. Together, we can keep each other motivated.

Will you take this challenge with me???

  1. I genuinely entertained the possibility of the challenge, but then life interrupted my intentions with emotional distractions. For now I am content to celebrate your endeavor and live vicariously!
